Assuming that the gun was built properly, the go gauge is not needed at all after first firing. Example 308 win go gage is 1.6300 and the field is 1.6400

I have never checked head space before, but my understanding is if i use the field gauge instead of a no go gauge i will be ok. The purpose of a go gauge is to make sure that the bolt closes.

A field gauge is alright on a proven rifle, not an unproven rifle. If a rifle closes on a field gauge, its chamber is dangerously close to, or longer than, saami’s specified maximum chamber size.
